Filter Bacteria

Good koi do not come from clear water alone.

They come from a stable biological system. Behind every healthy pond, there is a strong bacteria colony working quietly breaking down waste and keeping the environment balanced over time.

Without this stability, koi will slowly show it in their growth, condition, and skin quality.

Tested Through Real Pond Application

Performance observed under demanding grooming conditions.

Bactoplus bacteria were tested in a 300-litre grooming tub stocked with eight koi at 20–25 cm — intentionally overstocked and fed six times daily. Filtration consisted only of Japanese mat, Super Bio Rings, and cockle shells with Bactoplus dosing.

Within eight months, koi reached 45–50 cm in strong condition without damage. These results demonstrated bacterial stability and filtration support under extreme biological load, confirming the effectiveness of the system.

When the System Is Not Stable

Water Condition Fluctuates Easily

Parameters change quickly, especially after feeding or cleaning, showing that the biological system is not stable.

Koi Become Stressed Without Clear Reason

Even when water looks fine, koi behaviour shows stress due to unseen imbalance in the system.

Pond Cannot Handle Feeding Load

As feeding increases, the system struggles to cope, leading to gradual decline in water quality.

Bactoplus Bacteria Range

Bactoplus Filter Start Gel

Sizes: 1 L, 2.5 L
High-density filter starter containing approximately 120 million bacteria/ml. Designed to establish filtration bacteria colonies quickly and reliably.

Recommended dosage:
50 ml/ton (pond start)
25 ml/ton (maintenance)

Bactoplus Activator Gel

Sizes: 1 L, 2.5 L
Formulated to enhance bacterial performance and support biological balance, including algae control.

Recommended dosage:
50 ml/ton (pond start)
25 ml/ton (maintenance)
Often used in combination with Filter Start Gel.

Bactoplus Filter Start (Liquid)

Sizes: 1 L, 2.5 L
Liquid formulation suited to larger ponds with slower flow rates. Passes through filter media more quickly than gel forms.

Recommended use:
Ponds above ~10 tons.
Commonly paired with Activator Gel in larger systems.

Bactoplus Ohmizu Clay

Sizes: 2.5 L, 25 L
High-purity mineral clay used to support water clarity and koi skin quality. Fine particle structure allows dispersion without gill irritation.

Typical dosing:
25 ml/ton, twice weekly.

Observed effects include improved skin finish, beni tone, and sumi expression.

Bactoplus Sludge Buster

Sizes: 1 L, 2.5 L
Heterotrophic bacteria that consume solid and dissolved organic waste in pond and filter systems. Reduces organic load so filtration bacteria can function more effectively.

Regular dosing helps improve water clarity and koi skin quality by lowering accumulated waste burden.

Bactoplus Lacto Health

Sizes: 1 L, 2.5 L
Probiotic and enzyme formulation supporting water quality and koi immunity. Suspension format allows rapid interaction within pond systems.

Used either directly in pond dosing or mixed with feed alongside mineral clay.

Bactoplus Fresh PSB

Size: 2 L
Photosynthetic bacteria culture derived from long-maintained parent stock. Supports ammonia and nitrite reduction and contributes carotenoids beneficial to koi pigmentation.

PSB complements filtration bacteria but does not replace them.
Used to support colour stability and water balance.

Why We Use Bactoplus

Bactoplus is fully imported from the Netherlands without repacking, ensuring bacterial integrity and consistency. The product has been independently tested and ranked highly among filtration bacteria systems. When we first encountered Bactoplus, we initially expected results similar to other bacteria products. However, after studying its formulation and observing performance in real pond conditions, its effectiveness became clear.

To evaluate performance, Bactoplus was tested in a controlled 300-litre grooming tub stocked with eight koi measuring 20–25 cm — intentionally overstocked. The koi were fed six times daily, while filtration consisted only of Japanese mat, Super Bio Rings, and cockle shells with regular Bactoplus dosing.

After eight months, the koi developed to 45–50 cm in strong condition without damage and in show-ready quality. These results confirmed the stability and biological support provided by the bacteria system even under heavy load conditions.
